Theme for September-October: "Be Still and Know"

I can remember taking trips to see my relatives in Central Louisiana in my youth.  One of the things I found fascinating when I was down there was how many businesses happened to be closed on Sundays.  This was the early 1980s, so the famous Blue Laws were on the way out, but there are still places that were closed or opened in the evening in order to allow people to go to church.

I look back at that time and it feels like life was so much slower then.  Now everything is speeded up.  Life is on the gas pedal.  Where there used to be three networks that all had their news at the same time, we have 24 hour news channels and the internet that give us news whenever we want (or even when we don’t want it).  Everyone talks about how busy they are.

The church is no different as congregations try to offer resources and programs and appear busy.  Living life at full tilt is the perferred way of living.

But are we missing something in our busyness?  Could we be missing God?

Starting September 17 and going through October, our Congregational Theme will be “Be Still and Know,” based of the verse found in Psalm 46:10.  In our sermons and Bible Studies, the goal will be to slow ourselves down and listen for God and find time to hopefully listen to one another.  Please join us starting with worship on September 17.  Join in and slow down.
