Fall 2019 Worship Series

Ubuntu.  It's a Xosha word which roughly translates to "I am because you are."  It's an African concept that means we are not self-made people, but we are who we are because of the other.  It focuses on the dignity and human worth of the other person.  Archbishop Desmond Tutu used Ubuntu in response to the anti-apartheid movement and the Reconciliation process in its aftermath.  Our dignity and identity is drawn from the image of God that is expressed in the Trinity.  What does it mean for a faith community to live in a way that honors each other and those from different backgrounds?  Starting September 8, our sermons will focus on Ubuntu and what that means for us as children of God.
